 Operational Procedures and Prerequisites
For Flying Members


As a flying member of the Elphinstone Aero Club, you have the privilege of flying the club Cessna 172 and the 150 Aerobat. The executive have established the following guidelines to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our aircraft. You will be one of the many responsible pilots, "flying for the love of flying", so please leave the aircraft, hanger and op's room in as good or better condition than you found it. HAPPY FLYING!
Prerequisites:
To fly the club aircraft you must be:

- Paid up club member in good standing;

- Checked out by an instructor on type;

- Supply flight history record for our insurance company;

- Upon acceptance of records by our insurance agent, a check-out ride is to be taken with a check pilot.

1. As pilot you are responsible for the aircraft.

2. Booking club aircraft is done by calling our booking service between the hours of 0700 hours to 1900 hours. Give your name, telephone number, destination and booking date with time. Upon completion of your flight, notify the club maintenance coordinator of any snags or problems that need attention. Minimum flight booking charge is 30 minutes from the hobbs meter.

3. Club aircraft may be flown into licensed airports only, unless authorized and approved by the executive and check pilot. Damage or abnormal wear and tear resulting from misuse is the pilot's responsibility ( ie damage to paint, prop, leading edges, tires, etc.) Report any damages prior to your flight and write it on the snag sheet.

4. Any booking of 3 or more days, cross country of more than 500 miles or to the USA must be approved by the majority of the executive and it is the responsibility of the pilot to ensure the return of the aircraft to CAP3.

5. The pilot in command must fill out the log book. If your's is the first flight of the day, Print D.I. and your initials in the remarks section to indicate you have completed the walk-around check. You must also fill in pay record sheet correctly and pay by cheque after each use. (NO CASH OR CREDIT) Note: If you leave cash and it goes missing, you are still responsible for the payment!

6. Club aircraft must be kept clean for the next flying member. At minimum, wipe the belly and any contaminated surfaces off after each use. Clean the windshield with approved cleaner and a soft cloth. (cleaner is in lockers) Keep the inside of the aircraft clean and neat by taking away your garbage that has accumulated during your flight.

7. All covers, control locks and tie downs must be put in place when parking aircraft.

8. Certificates of Airworthiness and 100 hour inspections and currency of insurance will be monitored by the pilot using the aircraft.

9. Report all minor and major snags in the snag book located in the op's room above the desk. If the aircraft is unserviceable, enter it in the log book.

10. Any costs (such as parking, overnight charges, landing fees must be paid by the pilot in charge before returning to CAP3. If the club has to pay bills on a pilot's behalf there will be a handling charge.

A breach of any of the E.A.C. simple "10 Commandments" may result in the suspension of flying privileges.

Recency Requirements

It is noted that the Elphinstone Aero Club has a recency policy of 90 days. You must have flown in the past 90 days on type or a check ride is required.

(a) Five year requirement: to meet this requirement, you must have either
(1) flown as pilot in command or co-pilot within the previous five years or
(2) completed a flight review with an instructor and written and passed the PSTAR exam within the previous twelve months

(b) Two year requirement: to meet this requirement, you must have successfully completed a recurrent training program within the previous 24 months. There are seven ways to meet the recurrent training program standard. These can be reviewed in the LRA Section 3.9

(c) Six month requirement: to meet this requirement for carrying passengers, you must have completed five take-offs and landings in the same category and class within the previous six months. If the flight is to be flown at night then the take-offs and landings must have been completed at night.
